Holiday Sales and Seasonal Promotions
Holiday sales have long been a staple of any business. Seasonal promotions are always a great incentive to get customers into the store and spend money. Christmas promotions alone can “make or break” store quite often. Merchants always look to the Christmas season as their economic indicator. Just like any other “Sale”, holiday and seasonal promotions need to be carefully planned and executed if they are to be profitable. It takes more than just putting up a “Sale” sign—you must get the word out. You need to utilize any and all advertising and marketing tools that are available to you. Tools such as: • Signage/Display • Direct Mail/Email • Newspaper/Magazine advertising • Flyers and handouts • Media Advertising • Website Advertising/Banners • SEO and PPC ads • And more. Some suggested Holiday Sales Events or Seasonal Promotions include: • Christmas: The biggest buying season for purchasing gifts. Decorate accordingly. Don’t forget Santa! • New Years: Use a “party” theme and have a “Welcome the New Year Sale” • Valentine’s Day: Love theme of course! • President’s Day: Uncle Sam theme. • St. Patrick’s Day: Cater to the Irish market. • Mother’s Day/Father’s Day: Who doesn’t have a parent? • Memorial Day: Salute to those who have served. • Graduation: For all the students graduating. • 4th of July: Patriotic theme. • Labor Day: Back to school themes do well at this time. • Columbus Day: Fall items and summer clearance. • Halloween: Costumes, candy and anything scary. • Thanksgiving: Family related themes and the start of Christmas season. Having sales to celebrate the season or time of year also do well and are a great time to move inventory from the preceding seasons while promoting the new inventory. Spring, Summer, Fall and Winter sales can all be extremely profitable and great product movers. Taking advantage of holiday and seasonal sales can do a lot to help your bottom line. If done properly with a lot of careful planning they’re bound to be a success.
